Why use horses?

Although we can easily be seen as a threat, after a horse determines a human to be safe, the connection and relationship between horse-human deepens. Horses willingly accept humans as herd mate and into their herd but only if humans are cooperative, fair, respectful, and trustworthy; and when humans communicate clearly, behave responsibly and exhibit strong teamwork.

Horses are also willing to accept a human as their leader if the human demonstrates the traits of a good leader. So how do horses come to accept us as herd mates and leaders? Ultimately, through this equine work, horses teach participants to become good herd mates and effective leaders. The real gift is that participants are simultaneously developing the tools that also lead to improved communication skills, compassion, cooperation and greater confidence when dealing with people.
